IBM vs. Facebook: Social Media Battle

Facebook today has more than 500 million users, its going to be hard for anyone in the social networking world to compete with them right? By the sounds of things, IBM seems to think they have a chance. When I first heard IBM and social networking being used in the same article it was a bit of an eyebrow raiser.

Apparently now that IBM has failed at dominating the computing market they think they have a chance in the world of social networking. No offense anyone who reads this from IBM but I don’t think you stand a chance…

Over at Forbes Colette Martin has written an article where she talks about IBM’s enterprising strengths but these days most companies have their own internal forms of communication. I know from my time in Pfizer that there was a lot of email communication used as well as a communication system kind of like the original msn messenger. Thus far I haven’t seen any social networking website that has been IBM produced and remember the aesthetics have something to do with how good a website is. That along with customer experience and functionality.

Do you agree with me that IBM wouldn’t have a hope in hell of competing with Facebook? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below.
