If you listen to rumors then you have possibly already heard that Google has apparently bought Groupon for a staggering $2.5 billion. Groupon are an organization of hundreds of freelance deal seekers who go to different places, find a deal and then do a write up on it.

Now this is a purchase that would make sense for Google with the launch of Google Hot Pot and Google Places, which is a little like Facebook’s places and Foursquare where you “check-in” to a location. I am wondering if there is going to be some kind of automated way for Google once you check in to show you all of the local deals.

To me if it is true that a deal has been struck between the two parties then it is a decent acquisition for Google who always want that bit more! If Google were to get this then it would want it to be as seamless as their search engine so would be looking to have not too many issues with it in the initial stages.
