Apple iTunes Sells A Staggering 2 Million Beatle Songs & 450,000 Albums

Although it has taken years of bartering, Apple has finally managed to secure sales of The Beatles catalogue for their iTunes music store. The battle between Apple Inc., Apple Corp and EMI came to a end last Tuesday.

One week on and the iTunes founders have presented figures of over 450,000 albums and more than 2 million individual songs downloaded from their site within it’s first 7 days of release. BGR reported that the super groups best selling album has been “Abbey Road” with their single “Here Comes the Sun” proving the most popular single.

Comparing these sales figures against other music legends, Billboard biz report that when the mighty Led Zeppelin’s catalogue made it’s iTunes debut back in November 2007, album sales in the U.S. struck the 47,000 units mark. Individual track purchases totalled 300,000. The Beatles track sold within the first week giving a total of around 6.4% of all U.S. sales. This equates to more sales than Warner Bros. Records, Island Def Jam Group or Capitol Records for the previous week.

As part of The Beatles introduction into iTunes, Apple has included a huge marketing push, advertising on TV during large events such as, the American Music Awards as well as filling spots on prime-time programming.

With Black Friday just about to break cover I’m sure we can expect to see extensions to the marketing campaign. Tell us if you were waiting for the release of the Fab Four on iTunes?
