Social Media Reluctance For Fashion Industry

Previously we reported how Social Media was creeping into the fashion industry by using Twitter and its micro site capabilities for different events. The last notable use was to do with fashion was the 2010 New York Fashion week.

As we know the Internet is a fantastic tool for research in all industries including fashion, I mean how often do you see your wife or girlfriend browsing through various websites trying to work out the new look for the next season. Well it seems as though the Internet is being used more and more by different people in the fashion world according to Lauren Indvik over at ctv.

So why is there not more high fashion garments on the Internet? Quoting Jean-Claude Biver from last summer at Reuters Global Luxury Summit he said “When you are online, you are not exclusive anymore.” Surely you can keep exclusivity even if you do trade online? Is the fashion industry above retailing online?
