As the use of social media becomes increasingly important in the field of politics it appears that Facebook is proving its intent to get in on the live streaming market by teaming up with ABC to provide coverage on election night.
The deal with ABC means that on November 2, election night, when ABC streams live to ABCNews.com, and for the ABC iPad app, it will also provide live streaming to Facebook, according to Steve Safran over on Lost Remote sourced from ABC. From 20:00 to 21:30 coverage will be exclusively online, and then from 21:30 the network will join in the action.
The Midterm Election Night Coverage on ABC will be anchored by Diane Sawyer and George Stephanopoulos and “Vote 2010” will not only feature coverage from ABC News headquarters in New York, but also reports from Facebook’s Palo Alto base and will mean that voters can interact with the broadcasts with comments and questions.
Yahoo! News will also be involved as ABC is collaborating with Yahoo to offer election polls. For more on this go to lostremote.com.
