Today is the 50th anniversary of the Flintstones and the day is being marked by Google with one of its Google Doodle’s depicting the Flintstones in the usual cartoon style. Other recent Google Doodle’s have been for Google’s own 12th birthday celebrations as well as one that marked the birthday of writer Agatha Christie.
However it’s not just Google that is celebrating The Flintstones as Facebook too have a dedicated page just for the family from Bedrock. Facebook says its goal is to make the Community Page, “the best collection of shared knowledge on this topic.” There are already lots of comments on the page with people talking about The Flintstones’ birthday, some asking which episodes are readers’ favorites and others and as you might expect many people exclaiming, “Yabba Dabba Doo!”.
There’s also a Wikipedia section on the page which lists more interesting details such as the fact the animated series ran from 30th September 1960 to 1st April 1966 and was produced by Hanna-Barbera Productions. While William Hanna once said that The Flintstones was actually based on the popular TV show of the time, “The Honeymooners,” Joseph Barbera dismissed this but said it was a compliment that people thought so.
Some of you may even remember that in some of the early episodes the town was actually referred to as Rockville rather than Bedrock.
