Microsoft Set To Challenge Apple With Xbox Kinect Sales

Over the last few months, we have been reporting on the new Xbox Kinect console. The new “controller-free” device is set to change the way of gaming and entertainment. It is due for release on November 4 in North America and in Europe on November 10. Microsoft will be offering two bundle packages including a 250GB and 4GB.

According to Jamie at PR News, Microsoft have commented that in comparison to Apple’s iPad, the new Kinect will overtake sales in leaps and bounds, even bustling its way past the Xbox 360 console. Microsoft, the giant technology company that have been around since the mid seventies, have said, “This is going to be the one consumer electronics purchase this holiday.”

Compared to the PS3 “Move”, the Xbox Kinect is indeed a “highly sought” after console and users will want to get their hands on one the day they are released. Retailers have already spoken of a pre-order frenzy. Marketing manager for Sony UK, “Adam Boita” has said, “Pre-orders are always important, but Move is not necessarily a pre-order product. It’s not like Halo or World of Warcraft expansions, where people want to get hold of it day one. It is an evergreen product. And whereas pre-orders are very important, it is not necessarily the key focus”.

MMM im alittle disapointed in microsofts decesion to downgrade the product almost to a point where i dont want to buy kinent anymore i mean it's surly made some diffrences and i was preety excited but now i know the limitations that will come with it so im not so sure anymore ,
bottom line i have a sey and been a xbox suporrt im unhappy with the way microsoft go about particular things like charging people money to change there gamertag on xbox WTF!! soon the government will be taxing us on the AIR we breath ?????? , they have Trillions and would have still made profit of kinect without downgrading it unfortunately ill just have to wait till xbox 720 till i get a chance to play they orginal hardware model coz they ont be updating it till then :(

As far as I'm aware, the only people predicting huge day one sales are Microsoft. Public response has been tepid at best, downright adamant refusal at worst. Microsoft expects their core to buoy this device, and yet, they've openly stated that Kinect isn't targeting their core audience.

It has promise as a piece of hardware, but I personally think it's going to have a rough year ahead of it.
