Contestants from over 80 countries competed in Monday night’s Miss Universe 2010 beauty pageant, but only one of them could obviously be crowned the 2010 winner. After competing in 3 different categories, it was Miss Mexico Jimena Naverrete who was crowned Miss Universe 2010.

According to Natalie James over at themoneytimes.com (sourced from AP), it wasn’t long after she was crowned the winner, that 22-year old Navarrete was receiving congratulations from the Mexican President Felipe Calderon and his wife via the popular social-networking website Twitter.

“Congratulations to Jimena Navarrete for her deserved victory as Miss Universe,” the President posted on Twitter. He then went on to add: “This will serve Mexico, (and) our image as a country.” Navarrete has in fact become the second Miss Universe to have come from Mexico.

Besides winning the new Miss Universe 2010 sash and the sparkling tiara, Navarrete also won a year-long scholarship to the New York Film Academy, an undisclosed salary and a luxury apartment in New York with living expenses, as well as clothing, jewelry and other gifts.
