Foursquare, the location-based networking site has now confirmed its user figures as being in the region of 2.6 million. In July Foursquare’s CEO “ Dennis Crowley” tweeted that the app had now secured its 2 millionth registered user. Foursquare, which was launched in 2009 is accessible via the internet, mobile device or can be used as a game.
Richard Goodwin at Know Your Mobile, reported that with the ever increasing number of people to the networking site, figures could easily rise to the 3 million mark. Competition such as MyTown, another GPS-based application could see Foursquare taking over in user numbers.
For those of you who are unaware of Foursquare, users can connect to their friends and update their location to then gain points or badges. Foursquare have commented that in the future, users may be able to customise their own badges.
