Twitter being one of the largest social networking sites has seen a record breaking number of over two million people following the NBA, a record number for any U.S. sport league on this site. According to Twitter, NBA fans outdo user numbers of the NFL (National Football League). This sees 1.7 million followers, or Major League Baseball which sees approximately 30,000 followers. These figures represent just how popular the NBA is and how the site is becoming increasingly popular with their tweets.

When AFP reported on this, Twitter NBA numbers were commented on by vice president Melissa Rosenthal-Brenner. It appears that when numbers for the 30 NBA clubs and the 165 players are added together, this gives Twitter a staggering figure of over 23 million users to the site.

During the month of June, the NBA set a new record for tweets per second during game seven of the NBA finals, which saw the Los Angeles Lakers win over Boston Celtics.
