MySpace Relaunch: Creativity and self-expression

Following on from the recent article we brought you about MySpace losing 49% of its user traffic, it now appears that the once-popular social networking website is getting a re-launch. News Corp. has just announced plans of a MySpace re-launch this year.

According to, News Corp.’s head of digital operations spoke about the re-launch on Friday, and said that the site will then target a younger audience. News Corp. purchased the social networking website for $580 million back in 2005.

News Corp. chief digital officer Jon Miller says that while Facebook may have reached the 500 million members mark recently, MySpace still has a healthy user base. “It’s still around,” Miller said, adding that the site attracts around 65 million-70 million users a month in the US alone.

Since being overtaken by Facebook, MySpace has worked to position itself as a platform for musicians and their fans. Miller says that the site now intends to go younger and youthful, and will put a premium on both “creativity and self-expression.”
