Foursquare is quickly becoming the most popular location-based game for Smartphone owners, and shortly after the service topped 2 million users, another milestone has been reached. Foursquare has now announced via Twitter that they have received 100 million check-ins!
Brad McCarty over on The Next Web is reporting that as well as reaching 100 million check-ins, the staff are moving into new offices in Soho. Things appear to be going great for Foursquare with over $20 million in new funding and $100 million in overall valuation.
For those who don’t know what Foursquare is, it’s a service where people ‘check-in’ to locations. This information is then broadcasted to your friends with the option to post to other social networking sites such as Facebook. You can then earn achievements based on where you are checking in and if you visit a location more than any other person, you can become ‘mayor’ of that location.
The company makes money by selling advertisements in the service. For example, if you check into a video rental store a lot, you could receive a code for half off your next rental. Do you use Foursquare? Let us know in the comments.
