Verizon iPhone Unlikely: Antenna and Android

Rumors of a Verizon iPhone have now been doing the rounds since the first iPhone was launched back in 2007. The most recent news suggests that Big Red will get the iPhone 4 in January 2011. However, we believe this to be untrue, which we aim to offer a reason.

Verizon are wise not to want the iPhone just yet because of the ongoing issue with the antenna, which when held a certain way will make you lose all of your signal.

However, that’s not the only reason why Verizon will not want Apple’s smartphone – Android is another. Big red was crying out for the iPhone when they had nothing else to offer, now they have the HTC Droid Incredible, the Motorola Droid and a range of new Android phones from Moto.

Why on earth would they want the iPhone when they have more than enough choice with the range of Android handsets each year?

Yes, the iPhone 4 has antenna issues… however, wouldnt they have to redesign the iphone anyways just so that it would work on the Verizon network?

Second,….. Yes Verizon has all the Droid phones. If the iPhone came to verizon, there are alot of AT&T customers that would switch over to Verizon, even if there contract was not up yet. So, I do not agree that Verizon would not carry the iPhone just because they have the Droid already. That's like saying they shouldn't carry BlackBerry because they carry Droid phones… My question is (since I am a current Verizon customer) "if" Verizon started carrying the iPhone, how would that effect the network? I know that they are working on getting their 4G network setup, but since the iPhone is a huge data hog, will the current or new 4G network be able to handle it?

If Verizon doesn’t get the Iphone they will still lose my wife and I. My blackberry fails 4 to 5 times a week with firmware issues and the same has happened with every Verison Blackberry I have ever owned. “JVM” Java Virtual Memory errors. Verizon has no room to talk about the Iphone when they can’t sell a phone that works continuously or even make the batteries last 2 years. The only thing that will keep me with Verizon is if they get the Iphone and they keep the unlimited web access I have now.
