Facebook Social Plugins: Best of the rest

Do you like this story?

What would you think if I said to you that Facebook is the next Google? Don’t jump to conclusions as I didn’t mean to infer there was a new search engine on the way. Apparently though, a recent Hitwise survey found that Facebook has now surpassed Google in terms of how much traffic it’s getting.

This comes to us from an article on PromotionWorld which says that Facebook has matched this success with sets of tools for marketers to use. Facebook social plugins such as Facebook Recommendations, Logins and Likes are used to intensify the experience of websites and the article looks at the top 3 in terms of importance for ecommerce.

If we look at Facebook Like we find that after its launch one billions ‘likes’ were served within the first day. It enables users to put pages of websites on their Facebook profiles. Product detail pages can be tagged by the user which then show on their wall on Facebook. This will have an increasingly broad impact on the web.

The Facebook Recommendations plugin enables users to see what pages they might like on a website and if you have a website you can see what recommendations you’ve already received, even if you haven’t implemented it yet. Facebook Login is also a valuable tool as it allows Facebook customers to see profile pictures of friends already signed up to your website. For much more on these social plugins see the full article on promotionworld.com. We’d be interested to hear your comments about social plugins.
