Last week there was a bit of speculation surrounding popular social networking website Twitter, and how they were experimenting with trending topics as ad space. And now it appears that it does seem to be the case, as part of “Promoted Tweets.”
If you are now wondering what exactly “Promoted Tweets” are, it’s the company’s new ad platform, which is aimed at increasing brands’ interaction with its fans, Jolie O’Dell at mashable.com reports. Oh and of course, increasing Twitter’s revenue in the process.
When a user clicks on the Twitter trending ad, they are then directed to a search results page with the advertiser’s promoted tweet at the top of the page. In one case, the promoted trend was from the upcoming “Toy Story 3” movie, the first customer.
The promoted tweets for this ad included “To infinity and beyond! Toy Story 3 hits theaters Friday, June 18. Did you get your tickets yet?” However, Twitter COO Dick Costolo has insisted that the promoted tweets aren’t actually ads, but some think otherwise.
