Do you remember the MTV VJ’s? Well, that is just so 1980’s, and now it appears that the network is looking to hire its very first TJ. Are you now wondering what exactly a TJ is? I can answer that for you right now, as it is short for Twitter Jockey!!
According to a recent article at The Associated Press by Sandy Cohen, MTV officials have said that the search is now on, for a new social media maven who will engage with the MTV audience, and serve as a liaison between the network’s viewers and the network honchos.
MTV’s GM Stephen Friedman described the TJ position as a “natural evolution of how we connect with our audience.” I definitely think it makes sense, considering we now live in a world where social media and social networking is a very big part of people’s lives.
The network has reportedly identified 18 potential candidates, and is now asking its audience to find two more. The 20 hopefuls will then have to compete in a series of online challenges, designed to reveal their personalities and show how they connect on Twitter.
Whoever becomes the new MTV Twitter Jockey (TJ), will report on upcoming MTV events such as the Video Music Awards in September. I don’t know about you, but that sounds like a pretty neat job to me. Will you be interested in applying for the position?
