2010 World Cup: 20 percent of all Internet Searches

The 2010 World Cup doesn’t actually kick off for another ten days yet, but it’s already taking the Internet by storm – especially in the UK. In fact, according to trend-watching analysts at Hitwise, at least 20% of all searches in the UK last week contained the words “World Cup.”

According to an interesting article over at mashable.com – written by Jolie O’Dell – the World Cup was in fact the subject of around 25,000 individual search terms in total. The highest search term of them all was simply “World Cup 2010,” which took 4.98% of all UK Internet searches.

Just the words World Cup took up 3.70 percent of UK search terms, while World Cup Dates, England World Cup Fixtures, World Cup Fixtures, Fifa World Cup, World Cup Groups and even World Cup Fantasy Football were also included in the searches.

Meanwhile, Americans appear to be preoccupied with searching for news and information on the Gore’s possible divorce than searching for information on the 2010 World Cup. The World Cup will take place in South Africa, between the dates of June 11th, and July 11th.
