It appears that the rumor mill has been churning over recently, after it was revealed that Facebook’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg had flown to New York recently to meet up with FourSquare’s CEO Dennis Crow, a report at TechCrunch has just revealed.

The meeting has hinted of a possible acquisition of FourSquare by Facebook. With smartphone devices and geo-location adoption vastly increasing in popularity, Facebook really needs to weigh in and FourSquare could the perfect answer for them.

Growth within the location-based social networking market is sure to play into the next evolution of Facebook’s updates. The Business Insider has actually noted that Facebook has already confirmed a “check-in” feature in the future.

And previous Facebook acquisitions may well indicate a potential FourSquare buy. In addition, FourSquare already has an established leadership position, strategic partnerships and advanced technology, that Facebook could use to adapt to its 400-million-user strong social network.
