Follow Celebrities on Foursquare: Like Twitter and Facebook

The location-based social networking website Foursquare, have recently announced a deal it has made with both VH1 and MTV, as well as introducing a new “Celebrity Mode” that uses the same sort of concept as Twitter – allowing users to follow celebrities.

Beginning with DJ Pauly D from MTV’s “Jersey Shore,” Foursquare users can now sign up to “follow” celebrity users as opposed to actually establishing as reciprocated friendship. This is the same concept that is used by Twitter, and on Facebook’s Fan Pages.

However, according to a recent report at mashable.com, celebrities will still be able to set up two-way friendships on Foursquare if they really want to. They can then apparently selectively update certain checkins to all users, or just to their actual friends.

As well as Pauly D, there will also be other celebrities from MTV and VH1 shows including “The City,” “The Hills” and “The T.O. Show,” that will be utilizing Foursquare in different ways. This includes users earning badges, related to all their favorite shows.
