Entertainment Industry and Musicians: Connecting with Social Media

Social Media plays a big part of everyday life these days, even when it comes to the world of music and entertainment. Take today’s musicians for example; many of them are using social media as a way to connect with their fans, build anticipation and generate more revenue.

One exact example of this is Glasses Malone, who’s a new artist that has just signed with Cash Money Records. According to mashable.com, he has been turning to bloggers, to get the word out about his new album “Beach Cruiser.” But they’ve been targeting non-music bloggers.

Instead of looking to get his tracks on highly trafficked MP3 blog sites like other artists, Glasses and his team have been focusing more on biking blogs, college blogs, beach lifestyle site and more, in the hope of driving some new traffic to Glasses’ site and generating some pre-album buzz.

Even though movie promotions on Facebook, sports moments on YouTube and MySpace music pages remain key features in the world of entertainment, many companies are focusing on how to apply social media features to their own sites, to deepen relationships with fans.

Social media has become important in many ways to TV shows etc. In the most recent season of “Dancing with the Stars,” ABC made the voting process social, by allowing fans to sign into abc.com via a Twitter or Facebook account, to cast a vote on their favorite couple.
