Yesterday proved to be a nightmare for Long Island commuters, and even though the LIRR service is now up and running again both in and out of Penn Station people are still battering Twitter with complaints.
Twitter became the forefront of a massive workout after a serious LIRR service suspension, which stopped trains and left platforms overcrowded. Yesterday was huge for Twitter with the hashtag #lirr reaching the top of the trending list nationally. Even after a few hours it stayed at the top of the New York Twitter trending list.
LIRR train delays happened after a power outage and passengers took to Twitter to find out more about the LIRR service status updates.
There was a delay with trains running between Jamaica and Penn with service operating in 15-minute intervals. There were also 30-minute intervals for Woodside, Forest Hills and Kew Gardens stations too.
Passengers were not too pleased with up to 80 minutes system-wide LIRR delays; a few trains were canceled as well as some being diverted to Atlantic Terminal.
Latest Updates: From Ronkonkoma to Yaphank the 5:21 PM train on Friday, September 4, this will operate through to Greenport, arriving at 6:45PM. There will be an extra 10 E/B trains on September 4 as well from Penn for those leaving work early on Labor Day holiday between 1:40PM & 3:48PM.
