15,416 supporters have signed a petition with 9,584 needed to reach a 25,000 goal to ban the Facebook ‘Feeling Fat’ removal.
Over on Facebook you can select many different feelings such as better, amazed, full, low, free and many more, but the one in question for its removal is ‘FAT’. So when you click on the emjoi feeling you can select ‘fat’ as your status.
But Catherine Weingarten and Endangered Bodies have started a Change.org petition titled ‘Remove the “Feeling Fat” Emoticon Option’. They believe fat is not a feeling and endorses shaming of the body as well as self-destructive thoughts.
Social media has had it mixed feelings about this ban, the petition states if someone sets their Facebook status to feeling fat they are making fun of other people who are overweight. They basically say fat is not a feeling, but even though people agree some have said, “When you set your status to feeling fat it is about yourself and you can say what you like about yourself, it is only a figure of speech.” But one other person said, “Fat is not a feeling, bloated is a feeling.”
