An earthquake in southern Japan according to the US Geological Survey measured at 5.9 magnitude. Its epicentre was around 290km southeast of Hachijo-jima, Izu Islands with depth of 65km.
There is really not much else to go on at the moment, but this quake has come just after the 4.4 magnitude earthquake that took place just off the Kuril Islands.
Japan is a common region for earthquakes; this is simply down to the country being near four main tectonic plates.
It was only a couple of days ago Japan was struck with a 4.5 magnitude earthquake, this one happened in Chiba prefecture, east of Tokyo but the tremors hit Japan, there were no damage reports.
