A new study shows users who look at or get involved with Alcohol Facebook status messages apparently has more chance of making them drink more, 400 people were part of the study and were asked how they felt after seeing or reading alcohol-related Facebook items.
The report shows that the more people engage in Alcohol Facebook status messages the more the chance people will want to drink. In a way it shows there are serious implications in introducing alcohol to teenagers.
Under-age drinkers see Alcohol ads everywhere and it has been said in the study they like to share or like something they are interested in, this is when they interact with it and start thinking about drinking. Social media is a powerful platform and by promoting alcohol it just promotes more drinking.
The downside to promoting alcohol-related content onto social networks such as Facebook is it’s very hard to control what happens to it. Once it is on Facebook it is very hard to remove it because you do not own it. Only the person putting it onto the social media site or Facebook themselves can remove the content.
In the report the team found anyone that liked, commented or shared an alcohol-related marketing message could possibly be the ones to likely consume alcohol.
