All the top newspapers now have a website, and in a new report The Guardian comes in at number one for being the most popular newspaper website on Twitter with 392,358 tweets per week.
This new study covers newspapers that got tweeted the most in 2014, even though The Guardian is the most popular UK newspaper websites on Twitter it was the Daily Mail that took the number 1 slot for the most frequently tweeted newspaper website story.
The Daily Mail story that was tweeted frequently was ‘Paw-fect recipes for your pet’s plate’, which had 76,752 tweets.
Thanks to the new study conducted by leading global search experience optimisation platform ‘Searchmetrics’, we can now look at 11 leading UK newspaper websites and how many tweets they generated per week.

1) The Guardian 392,358 tweets per week, 2) The Daily Telegraph 307,690 tweets, 3) Daily Mail 237,381 tweets per week, 4) Independent 214,868, 5) The Mirror 113,194 tweets, 6) Financial Times 61,065, 7) Daily Express 24,165, 8) Daily Record 11,107 tweets PW, 9) The Times 8,772, 10) Daily Star 6,556, 11) The Sun 3,531 tweets per week.
The research conducted shows that around three-fifths of Twitter’s 15 million UK users are following at least one journalist or national newspaper brand.
