The official US Central Command @CENTCOM Twitter and YouTube accounts have been reportedly hacked by Islamic State, and threatening messages were posted.
Its Twitter account was suspended after being hacked, and now when you visit the U.S. Central Command account you will see nothing but a suspension message.
As reported by the Washington Post one threatening message came in at 12:30 p.m, which looked like they were from IS sympathizers. One tweet was rather daunting saying, “American Soldiers, we are coming, watch your back ISIS.”
@CENTCOM cover photo and profile photo were changed showing the word ‘CyberCaliphate’ with another message saying, “In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful, the CyberCaliphate continues its CyberJihad.”
The message also said they know everything about the soldiers and their wives and children. The official Centcom YouTube account has also been suspended today, its Facebook page still seems fully operational by the U.S. military.
This is one of the largest hacks by the ISIS to date, and it should be taken very seriously. According to Reuters, Central Command said in a statement they can confirm the CENTOM and YouTube accounts were compromised today. Reuters also reports President Barack Obama is now preparing to discuss new proposals to protect the U.S from cybersecurity threats.
