First ever social media updates revealed

The Internet world and social media has jumped leaps and bounds since the 70s, not many people know about the first tweet or Facebook message that were sent. Do you know when the first ever email was sent, the first ever YouTube video being uploaded?

The WebpageFX Blog has put together a great infographic looking at the very first things posted online, such as the first email being sent in 1971 by Ray Tomlinson. It was very hard to send an email that many years ago, and just to think we now send over 183 billion emails per day in 2014.

YouTube co-founder Jawed Karim back in 2005 uploaded the first ever video on Saturday, April 23, 2005 at 8:27 PM. The YouTube video only lasted 19 seconds where you see Karim at the San Diego Zoo near the elephants, the clip has since had 16,381,395 – Watch below.

The first non-founder to join Facebook was Arie Hasit in 2004, yes he was Mark Zuckerberg’s roomate. Now there are 1.3 billion monthly active Facebook users with 1.1 billion of them being on mobile.

On Twitter the first ever tweet was “Just setting up mu Twittr”, by co-founder Jack Dorsey on 21 March, 2006. Now there are over 500 million tweets being sent every day.

The first Instagram post was published by co-founder Kevin Systrom on 16 July, 2010 of a Golden Retriever. Now there are 60 million photos being shared daily on Instagram.
