Internet Slowdown Day with graphic icon participation

Today September 10th is ‘Internet Slowdown Day’ and many websites are getting involved, these websites will look like they are running slow thanks to the graphic icon participation, but they are in fact running smoothly.

Internet Slowdown Day is in protest because big Internet Service Providers (ISPs) want the power to make sites slow and in some cases break them, this is where the “Protect Internet freedom. Defend net neutrality” graphic icons come into play.

Many sites such as Kickstarter, Reddit, Etsy, Mozilla, Netflix and so many more are already taking part. If you visit Engine for example you will see the icon running.

The statement over on battleforthenet.com says, “Cable companies want to slow down (and break!) your favorite sites, for profit. To fight back, let’s cover the web with symbolic “loading” icons, to remind everyone what an Internet without net neutrality would look like, and drive record numbers of emails and calls to lawmakers – Are you in?”

During peak hours many top sites use a lot of data, so the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) wants to allow broadband providers to charge them. But, Internet firms are saying sites should be treated equally and this is where the taking part in the ‘Internet Slowdown Day’ began.

Are you going to join the Internet Slowdown Day protest?
