Hamas Gaza Strip social media campaign guidelines

The Hamas interior ministry under the ‘Be Aware – Social Media Activist Awareness Campaign’ has issued new guidelines, and these are for social media users in the Gaza Strip.

After the Gaza Strip conflict battle on social media report last week new guidelines have been issued to social media users in the Gaza Strip, basically letting them know how they should be reporting on the Israeli attack in the crisis-hit area.

These were issued on Facebook and Twitter pages, posters, as well as its official website showing an instructional video, the new guidelines were put into place so it didn’t hurt the Hamas’ image, or indeed leaking such information that could potentially be valuable to the Israeli Army.

The Information Department of the Ministry of the Interior and National Security gave out new instructions to activists on social media websites, especially Facebook, they want to correct frequently used terms as they cover the hostility taking place in the Gaza Strip. In simple terms it has been put into place so they can use appropriate terminology.

So many photos have been shared since the crisis started, damaged buildings, bodies etc under hashtags including #GazaCrisis, #GazaUnderFire and #GazaUnderAttack.

The new social media guidelines now include instructions for social media users to refer Palestinians and Gazans that have been killed as ‘innocent’ the Israeli action as a “cruel attack”, and for those posting onto Facebook should stop using pictures of masked fighters with weapons and videos of rocket launches etc.
