Ian Thorpe trends on Twitter after Parkinson interview

The Australian Olympic swimming champion Ian Thorpe interview with Sir Michael Parkinson revealed he was gay, and since the one-off interview he has gone viral on Twitter with masses of support from fans and fellow celebrities.

The hashtag #onyaThorpie went viral and even if you search Twitter with ‘Ian Thorpe’ you will see the massive response the swimmer is getting after revealing he is not straight.

Many celebs have tweeted with greatest respects for the swimming star for openly admitting he is gay, these include the likes of Ricky Martin, Megan Gale, Magda Szubanski and many fans. The interview aired on Network Ten and Sir Michael Parkinson asked Thorpie, “You’ve always said that you’re not gay. Is all of that true?” and this is when the swimmer said he was not straight.

Swimming rival Grant Hackett said in a Nine News interview that that Ian Thorpe should be remembered as one of the greatest Olympians and not the guy who came out.
