The global market opportunity during the World Cup this year is phenomenal to say the least, and when you look at the marketing and stats of advertisers during this sporting event the engagement will be astonishing.

The infographic below made by digital marketing software service Offerpop titled ‘2014 Marketing World Cup’ takes a look into the analysis of social media and the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

There will be around 3.6 billion people watching the World Cup matches around the world, which is a staggering 50% of the world’s population, £5,700,000,000 will be spent on sponsorships and commercials, there will be 64 matches over 32 days.

When you look at the social media shootout Wayne Rooney (England) fell behind Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal) with 49,041 tweets to 60,350 (Based on June 8th) – But it was Lionel Messi (Argentina) who gained the most tweets at 70,743.

The teams with the most followers include Mexico with 1,450,000, Columbia with 823,000 but the most goes to Brazil with 1,460,000. Facebook estimates 500 million of the 1.28 billion users are football fans, 62% of these fans are on Facebook every single day.
