Instagram teenage popularity beating Facebook, Twitter

Whatever way you look at it Mark Zuckerberg is a winner when it comes to social sites, teenagers seem to be showing a vast interest in Instagram. Popularity seems to be heading more towards the picture-0sharing site rather than Facebook and Twitter so far this year.

Are teens really losing interest in Facebook?

The ‘Taking Stock With Teens Spring 2014’ survey by Piper Jaffray reveals a lot when it comes to teenagers and what they like, about 5,000 teenagers were surveyed on many different topics including Apple products, fashion, video games, food and much more.

What interests us about the survey is the ‘Instagram Most Important Social Network For Teens’ graph showing Spring 13, Fall 13 and Spring 14, and the graph also shows the names of the top social sites including Facebook, Twitter, Facebook, Google+ and a few others. The main three include Facebook, Twitter and Instagram with only one showing more popularity by teens.

Managing director Gene Munster and Piper Jaffray senior analyst reports that the photo-sharing site Instagram is showing more popularity by teenagers being the most preferred social teen site. Around 30 percent of those surveyed preferred Instagram to Facebook.

If you look at the survey graph above you can clearly see Facebook has dropped from 27 percent to 23 percent from Fall 2013 to Spring 2014, Twitter dropped from 31 percent to 27 percent in the same period, but Instagram from Fall 2013 to Spring 2014 went from 27 percent to 30 percent.

As we said above, Mark Zuckerberg wins either way seeing as he owns both Facebook and Instagram.
