Turkey Twitter ban, shutdown is unacceptable

Turkey is stepping up its plans in blocking access to Twitter after many users found a way in getting around the ban, Service providers in Turkey are having its addresses blocked used by Twitter in the hope to make it very difficult indeed to side step the limits put into place.

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan wants Twitter rooted out, this came after claims of Twitter being used in spreading tapped recordings that have apparently damaged his government’s reputation.

The Washington Post reports on Turkey strengthening the Twitter ban and institutes IP level block, please do read more from them. It was at first reported that the Turkish ISPs were setup to redirect traffic to a government website, which in return forced the DNS servers to do this.

Now the latest news reveals that ISPs are starting to block the IP addresses used by Twitter, a few messages showed up on Twitter by Turkish President Abdullah Gul, an ally of Mr. Erdogan with one saying: “The shutdown of an entire social platform is unacceptable. Besides, as I have said many times before, it is technically impossible to close down communication technologies like Twitter entirely. I hope this measure will not last long.”
