Maker Studios YouTube network vs Disney $500m takeover

Disney is reportedly to be in talks with the Maker Studios YouTube network to complete a takeover bid worth around $500 million or more.

Recode reports Disney pondering on the thought of purchasing Maker Studios for around the $500 million mark, obviously no official information has come via the Disney or YouTube camp but hopefully the light will be shed soon enough about the buyout.

Apparently a Maker Studios representative said the company doesn’t comment on speculation or rumor, and Disney has not made any response to the message looking for comment.

YouTube channels are a massive business at the moment and if done right can earn YouTubers a great deal of money, take Felix Kjellberg the 24-year-old from Sweden for example with his YouTube network PewDiePie, he is the most popular YouTube members with over 24,949,150 subscribers estimated to earn between $1.6 million and $16.2 million per year.

Maker Studios said they have 340 million subscribers and over 4.5 billion monthly views come in, makes sense why Disney would want to purchase.

Do you think Disney should buy the Maker Studios YouTube network?
