The Social Searcher team has collected and analyzed more than 3.8 million tweets from 1.7 million users relative to the Winter Olympics. The major sentiment was neutral 76% and the #sochi hashtag was the most mentioned one >550K. There were enough hiccups during the Sochi Olympics and it’s not surprising to see #sochiproblems in the top.

T.J. Oshie became national and twitter hero of the USA after the dramatic shootout win over Russia. That USA vs. Russia hockey match was a true social bomb with the massive twitter users activity as well as the Sochi’s opening ceremony. Another social media hero – Shaun White was the biggest name in snowboarding for more than a decade, however, failed to medal in the halfpipe.

Bronze medalist Bode Miller got popularity after the emotional interview with the NBC’s reporter Cooper. Sochi’s stray dogs story highlighted silver medalist Gus Kenworthy, who planned to adopt puppies.

“Sexiest female-olympians of the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics” post by the Teensdigest got more than 100K shares in twitter. Sketch of the Japanese gold medalist Yuzuru Hanyu by @takumitoxin was one of the most popular tweets.
