Twitter problems with links in Direct Messages

Many Twitter users may have encountered problems sending links or URLs via Direct Message lately; error messages have been popping up showing ‘Direct Messages’ (DMs) being sent that also included malware, some have said that these messages could not be sent for some unknown reason.

Many reports came in about this problem but according to Tech Crunch there were technical issues occurred preventing URLs from being sent in direct messages, this was also confirmed by a Twitter spokesperson that said “There is a technical issue with URLs in Direct Messages.”

If we visit the Twitter support page the message still says “We’re restructuring back-end elements of our direct message system. As a result, users may be unable to send some URLs in direct messages. We apologize for the inconvenience.” Complaints are still coming in on forums and it seems the technical issue is being looked into.

The problem is to do with the handling of Direct Message spam and not with the sending of URLs, OSM will provide more information as soon as we know more.
