UK Budget online reaction: 62,000 comments already

In the last couple of hours we have seen the UK Budget and online reaction during the event. The details below are just an early look at online reactions so far.

Analysis by Synthesio into initial online reaction to the Budget:
· Over 62,000 comments online as the Budget took place (including social media platforms, forums and comments on news articles).
· The vast majority of initial reaction was neutral (87%).
· The most often used words to describe the Budget: ‘cuts’, ‘deficit’, ‘problems’, ‘unemployment’, ‘growth’ and ‘taxes’.

Catriona Oldershaw, Managing Director UK of Synthesio, said: “Tweeters latched onto the Evening Standard leak, and the #omnishambles hashtag, as the budget announcement unfolded. The one pence reduction in beer tax also generated a flurry of positive tweets, 1,388 in a 10 minute period.”
