Social media engages 700,000 Coca-Cola staff

Social media and its use is now becoming a popular tool for the individual and for organisations big or small. When we talk about social media, we are often referring to the use of social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter or even professional site LinkedIn and how their use can in the long run promote many things.

In the past we’ve spoken about how companies can promote their brands through such sites, but one today isn’t necessary doing this, but actually engaging its employees with the use of social media.

Giants Coca-Cola are implementing social media into their staff engagement programme and as marketingweek.co.uk reported, by including it onto their “My KO intranet system,” some 700,000 staff worldwide will be able to read articles, follow news, talk to one another, engage with customers and so on.

In a statement from Coca-Cola’s Louise Kelly she said, “It’s a dream come true for a brand like Coca-Cola, where we have employees all over the globe, the digital connection is fantastic for us. It’s definitely an area where lots of exciting things are being developed at the moment.”

Others getting in on the social media act are that of Bacardi, Easy jet and also Sainsbury’s.

Tell us firstly if you are an employee of Coca Cola and your thoughts on the use of social media? If not, do you think that companies should take a leaf out of their book?

I wonder how freely they’ll be able to speak their minds?
