That of former bassist for group Weezer, Mikey Welsh. At a young age of 40 years old, the news was announced via social networking sites Twitter and Facebook from Welsh’s family. The announcement read, “We are deeply saddened to announce that Mikey Welsh passed away unexpectedly today. He will forever be remembered as an amazing father, artist and friend. May he rest in peace.”

Some may not be familiar with the group Weezer or even bassist Mikey Welsh, but its of course his family and fans today that will be remembering him for his achievements. Back in 1998 as it was reported from hollywoodreporter.com, Weezer bassist at the time Matt Sharp decided to leave the group without prior knowledge. In his place, Welsh joined the group and played on the 2001 album “The Green Album.” During the same year, Welsh was reported to have suffered a mental breakdown and tried to take his own life.

It was after this attempt, that he decided to retire from the music scene and wanted to concentrate his efforts on art, something of which he enjoyed pursuing. In an interview with Welsh himself in 2007 he said, “Basically a lifetime of doing drugs and being undiagnosed as having disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, and borderline personality disorder finally caught up with me when I was 30 yeas old. At the beginning of a 3-month European tour with Weezer, I started slowly falling apart.”

His cause of death is still unknown but police have said that Welsh was found in a Chicago hotel room. His former Weezer band members have tweeted, “We are shocked and deeply saddened to hear the awful news, our friend and fellow weez rocker has passed away. We love u Mikey.”
