Should Apple Allow Pre-Orders For The iPhone 5/4S?

Whilst Apple is preparing for events they have managed to get the whole world guessing the details of their latest handset/s such as the iPhone 5 and the iPhone 4S; which are both rumored to be coming soon. With that being the case, we are wondering if Apple should allow pre-orders for the two handsets or keep to their usual methods of not saying anything until it’s actually released.

The iPhone 5 as we all assume it will be called has had a number of rumors circulating about features such as the screen size, the thickness of the device and of course the internal components that it will have, but let’s be honest, nobody really knows what it will look like or what it will have except Apple. Even when Samsung were trying to get those details in the court room they were denied although Apple had a sneak peek at Samsung’s new devices.

Now we get to the debate, would Apple be any better off if they held back on the mystery and allowed pre-orders for their latest handsets and devices or are they better off just releasing it and watching the avalanche of orders come in. Personally, I don’t see why they don’t let everyone know what’s coming and throw a pre-order page up after an event, rather than just releasing it in stores instantly, surely they would generate even more interest and income if people know what they are getting before they order it…

The argument can go both ways through… Perhaps Apple enjoy the fact that their competitors are also in the dark about the handsets, maybe they benefit from instantaneous releases like that of the iPad and the iPad 2. When you think back about their tablets and smartphones, there aren’t any that you could deem to be a failure; maybe they are going with their current method with the old saying of “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it

There are currently further rumors that Apple will release the new iDevices in the USA, UK, France Germany and Japan as reported by the Japanese site Again, we question whether or not Apple should go ahead with a worldwide release or if they simply cannot cope with the numbers. At least if they had pre-orders they would be able to gauge the interest surrounding the new iPhone, this would mean that they can manufacture enough of them for their opening day release rather than having the free-for-all of a first come first serve basis, we are interested to know your thoughts on this. You might also wish to read Maddy Rowe’s report on OSM where she talks about how Apple are perhaps doing a reservation list with some carriers; which was more than likely instigated by the carrier’s themselves.

What do you all think, should Apple throw a pre-order page up a while before they release the device? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
