Galaxy Player 4.0 / 5.0: US Pre-Order September 27th

Similar in design to Apple’s iPod Touch device, Samsung have now officially announced their new Galaxy Players 4.0 and 5.0, with Apple no doubt foaming at the mouth. If it isn’t enough that the two companies are in a war of words over device patents and that Samsung are offering a pretty impressive Galaxy S II handset, the Cali company now have another battle to take on.

Before we give you the players specifications, we can tell you that pre-orders are now being taken from today September 27th, with US sales expected October 16th. First up if we tell you that both Players take their names from their prospective screen sizes using WVGA Super Clear LCD’s, the same applies to Samsung’s tablet devices the Galaxy Tab 10.1 and the smaller 8.9, which coincidentally can now be pre-ordered with a shipping date of October 2nd.

Prices for the 8.9 will be: 16GB at $469 and 32GB at $569. Just to give you a brief overview of the 8.9, we can tell you that it will benefit from of course an 8.9-inch display, smaller than of the Apple iPad 2 with WXGA TFT, dual-core T250S processor, 6,100mAh battery, 3 megapixel rear facing camera and 2 megapixel to the front including flash and autofocus, 1080p, TouchWiz UX and so on.

Anyway, back to the Galaxy Players. For both devices, they will run on Android’s 2.3.5 Gingerbread OS with a screen resolution of 800×480 pixels. Cnet also reported that both will benefit from front VGA cameras and 3.2 megapixels to the rear, FM radio, integrated speaker, 3.5mm headphone jack, music format support from AAC, OGG and FLAC, video format support, Samsung’s Media Hub service giving you access to music, videos, e-books and social media, 8GB of internal storage with microSD memory expansion up to 32GB, connectivity via Bluetooth 3.0/WiFi as well as the 4.0 getting a 1,200mAh battery and the 5.0 benefiting from a bigger 2,500mAh.

In terms of price for the Galaxy Players, Engadget have kindly stated that the 4.0 will start off at $229 for an 8GB and the 5.0 at $269 also 8GB.
