Samsung Galaxy S II LTE / HD: Steps Up To The Plate

Since Samsung’s Galaxy S II super duper smartphone debuted back in April, the world has been in awe of this device. Just yesterday we told you that the yearly figure of 10 million sold units that Samsung were hoping to achieve, had now in fact been smashed and we are not even at the end of September.

With people commenting on the Galaxy S II’s impressive specs sheet, we can now tell you that the South Korean company have now stepped up to the plate, with yet two more devices that are due to be released in the pipeline. Before we enlighten you with both handsets, we wanted to refresh your memory in relation to the three US variants that have or are due to be launched.

Carrier Sprint have already released their new Epic 4G Touch, AT&T’s Attain version is due to be released on October 2nd with T-Mobile USA due to be holding an event today September 26th to launch their new Galaxy S II X, unfortunately there have been no updates to this since we posted this information on Saturday.

Coming back to the new Galaxy S II handsets, one of which has already been mentioned in past articles that we brought you. A new LTE will bring with it a slightly bigger 4.5-inch Super Amoled Plus screen compared to the bulk standard 4.3-inch that the global version includes. Along with this, the LTE model will benefit from a massive 1.5GHz dual-core processor compared to the 1.2GHz dual-core already found on the Galaxy S II. Cameras will stay the same with an 8 megapixel to the rear and 2 megapixel to the front, although the position of the rear will slightly change, appearance between the two handsets can be noted, with the LTE releasing with a smoothed out back panel instead of the textured one currently seen on the S II.

Amar Toor at Engadget was keen to report that the LTE will be available exclusively on SK Telecom although a fixed date and price has yet to be announced. Back on the 15th September, we brought you news that Canadian carrier Rogers Wireless would be bringing the LTE out just in Toronto on 28th September, again news on this has quietened down so take this with a pinch of salt.

Next up and we have to say you’re be impressed by this, is a new Galaxy S II LTE HD version, making it the first of the range to release with the add-on of HD. Reported to come with a 4.65-inch Super Amoled HD screen with 1280 x 720 resolution, the new Galaxy S II HD’s specs will equal that of the LTE model, with a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, 16GB of internal storage, 8 megapixel rear camera supporting 1080p HD video and 2 megapixel to the front, connectivity with WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS and Near Field Communication (NFC). Availability for the new addition will again be on SK Telecom with extras including KT and LG U+. As to the two models making it to Europe and the US is still unclear.

Tell us are you a fan of the Samsung Galaxy S II? What are your thoughts on the LTE and HD versions? Tempted if they come to a carrier near you?
