Al Gore Hints At iPhone 5 & 4S Launch: iPod Touch 5?

We well and truly know the date that Apple will hold their media event and unveil their iPhone 5. October 4th should be a date circled in everyone’s diaries, but will we get more than we bargained for? Ex Vice President and activist Al Gore has inadvertently confirmed that more than one iPhone model will be launching in October, further fueling rumors of an iPhone 4S. Gore is also a board member of Apple, making his words very credible and interesting.

Speaking at a conference in South Africa, Gore’s speech contained the sentence: “Not to mention the new iPhones coming out next month“. According to Cnet UK, Gore did not go on to elaborate, but his words looked like a slip of the tongue. It is widely expected that Apple would launch 2 smartphones, a premium one in the form of the iPhone 5, and an affordable one in the iPhone 4S. The plan from Apple was to launch a new iPhone every 6 months opposed to 12 months.

The iPhone 5 is expected to be a complete overhaul from the 4, with a new design, larger screen, dual core processor, 8 megapixel camera and NFC running on iOS 5. What is different this year is that the iPhone 5 will launch in both black and white. A leaked image showed a new Apple A5 chip which could mean an early jailbreak. The iPhone 4S is likely to be a slightly modified version of the 4, with the main focus on affordability.

On the other side of the coin, Gore could have simply made a mistake or was referring to large amounts of the iPhone 5. According to Tech Radar, journalist Toby Shapshak reported the potential slip up, confirming he was certain Gore’s words were plural and that he had even recorded it to double check. Believe it or not, these are the first official words on new iPhone devices we have heard from an Apple official. Many rumors have come from reported Apple employees but we can never be sure of their accuracy.

Apple’s event in just under 2 weeks could even see the unveil of the iPod Touch 5. The music device is normally unveiled in the opening week of September, but has been delayed as a result of the iPhone 5 occurrences. The significant features from the Touch 5 will likely be data connectivity, iOS 5 and a white version. Could we be about to see a triple device unveil from Apple?
