Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9: US Release & Price, Where?

As we swiftly move towards the end of yet another month, the holiday season will soon be upon us and the realisation of what to buy your loved one soon becomes prevalent. One idea this year is that of the new Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9. As many of you are aware, Apple’s iPad slate started the ball rolling last year with others hot on their tails. Samsung shortly followed with their Galaxy Tab, which has proved popular, with this year allowing the Korean company to bring out another, that of the Galaxy Tab 10.1 and the smaller 8.9.

Since the start of this year, devices have been coming in their droves. We’ve had a number of tablets to speak of such as the ones mentioned above and others such as the, Motorola Xoom, BlackBerry’s PlayBook which we have to report isn’t doing as well as first thought, the HTC Flyer and so on. Smartphones have been big business and Samsung’s new Galaxy S II is still dominating the current market, so can they do the same with the Galaxy Tab range?

Before we list its specs for you, we wanted to tell you that the WiFi tablet device will be available from Best Buy stores from September 22nd. Well we say stores, but a select few will be lucky enough to retail the new device on that day, with others on September 25th. According to Darren Murph over at Engadget, shipments of the 8.9 are now arriving in store for an expected price of $399.99 but as with any device, until it actually hits retailer shelves, this could slightly change.

So what will you get for your dollars? First up and we know its fairly obvious, is that of the 8.9-inch screen size which to be honest is really the only difference between this and its brother the Galaxy Tab 10.1. Other specs include a 1GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, in terms of camera the smaller tablet includes a 2 megapixel to the front for video calling and a 3 megapixel to the back of the device.

The new Sammy will run on Android’s 3.1 OS and as rethink-wireless.com reported, a 6000 mAh battery. What gives this the edge over Apple’s iPad second generation is that of its thickness, 0.2mm to be precise. The price is listed slightly higher on this site at $469.99 but if you wanted the 32GB, this will set you back an extra $100.

UPDATE: We’ve just got word that for the 16GB model you can expect to pay $469 or for the bigger 32GB $569.
