2011 Mac Pro Update Processor News: Candidates Due in November?

After giving readers news back in June about a possible new Mac Pro lineup coming in August we can’t help noticing that August has come and gone and there’s still no sign. For those of you still waiting eagerly for Mac Pro refresh information we have news today that may interest you. Although it doesn’t directly tell us when to expect the Mac Pro update it does tell us that the processors thought to be candidates for the next Mac Pros are thought to be due in November.

A report on VR-Zone, sourced from Turkish site DonanimHaber, tells how the Intel Sandy Bridge-E and X79 chipsets should be arriving in November. Not only that but weeks 46 and 47 have been specified for the Platform Launch but DonanimHaber give a specific release date of November 15. What we can expect are the Core i7 3820 at a price of $294, the Core i7 3930K priced at $583 and the Core i7 3960X priced $999. Whilst this may not mean much on its own MacRumors has different ideas.

Eric Slivka reports that the release of these E processors may mean more, as the server-class Xeon versions would be likely to ship at the same time. The significance of that is that these are candidates for inclusion in the Mac Pro update. Slivka also goes on to tell how new Mac Pros were originally rumored for August and last month the site told how suitable Intel processors would not be available until the fourth quarter of 2011, backing up today’s information.

The last time that the Mac Pro received an update was in July 2010 and so the arrival of the new processors in November means that Apple could conceivably launch the new Mac Pros. Indeed on previous occasions Apple has been given earlier access to new Intel processors and so could even introduce new Mac Pros earlier than the date given, just in time for the holiday buying season.

While obviously nothing is set in stone this certainly is food for thought and may give those of you waiting for the updated Mac Pros some hope. Are you holding on for news of the new Mac Pro lineup? What are your thoughts on this latest possibility? Let us know with your comments.

Yeah, about time I heard some news. I obsessively watched all sources for some whispering of an update almost all Summer long and didn’t get anything. I’ve been waiting for a a refresh on the line for an almost unbearable amount of time, I honestly can’t believe it’s taking them this long, but hopefully that is indicative of a huge leap forward technology wise with the new processors–I hear rumors of 16 cores. Some people say all hardware is internally being hardwired lightpipe, which would be just awesome. I also heard they’re making a version that is rack mountable. Who can say for sure? We’ll see, as long as they come out soon and keep the price as modest as possible–$5,000 for their top of the line, even though it is top of the line, is REALLY pushing it–I think it may be worth the very, very long wait.
