Sony PS Vita: Yours To Pre-Order, US / UK Prices

Shortly before the summer, the yearly E3 gaming conference took place allowing manufacturers such as Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft to show off their future product(s). With attacks taking place at the time from hackers, it was a job to know how the E3 would pan out and whether any interest would come from the event. Of course we would be silly to think otherwise but at the time gamers were starting to feel slightly uneasy, not because the consoles were being doubted but the service provided by the named companies.

As rumored the event brought many announcements, particularly that of Sony’s new PS Vita, Nintendo’s new Wii U and new of a next generation Xbox console. Although we gave you news on each along with specs, possible release dates and prices, disappointedly we will now have to wait until 2012 to feast our eyes on the actual consoles, or at least the Nintendo Wii U.

If there is any substance to news reports today, the Sony PS Vita according to Slashgear, has already gone up for pre-order at giant retailer Amazon with a shipping date in America of December 31 2011. At the beginning of August, we were keen to let you guys know that Best Buy Canada had indeed set up a product page listing for the 3G and WiFi+3G options with a release date of March 30th 2012 and price tag of $249.99.

We have to add at this point that today, the UK website is also offering both models with pricing starting at £229.99. For the option to have both the WiFi+3G model then the price will be slightly upped, Amazon US will be retailing the gaming console for $299.99 with the UK at £279.99. US carrier AT&T will be offering the Sony PS Vita initially but as to the UK market, network information is still unknown.

In terms of specs, the new Sony PS Vita will benefit from a 5-inch OLED touchscreen, WiFi, 3G, Bluetooth 2.1+EDR, dual analog sticks, two digital cameras, motion sensors, microphone, built in stereo speakers and so on.

Check out another of our articles in which we told you about the PS Vita including a variety of social networking apps such as the biggies Facebook, Twitter, Skype and Foursquare, but its not clear as to whether the apps will be accessible at the same time as the Vita launch or shortly afterwards from in-store.

Just before we leave you to ponder over your purchase, we wanted to let you know that ahead of the Tokyo Game Show, eight new game titles out of forty have already been announced. Thanks to Geeky Gadgets the line-up should include: Lumines: Electronic Symphony, Raymon Origins, Michael Jackson The Experience HD, Dark Quest, Sumioni, Dream Club Zero Portable, Moe Moe Daisensou, and Ragnorak Odyssey.

Although it would have been nice to see the new Sony before Christmas 2011, we will now have to wait until shortly after. What are your thoughts on the new PS Vita or even Wii U? If you are thinking of pre-ordering the Vita which version will you be opting for and tell us what side of the atlantic you live in?

  • Ps3

I think pushing it back to 2012 is a good thing because the christmas season is already packed full of great games for the consoles and with a lot of exclusives for ps3, bringing out the vita then will be bad because people won’t have enough money to get both. Also since it comes out in japan first, they test run the system for the rest of the world if its great a lot of people will be more ready to buy it, and if it sucks we save money. Also it gives more time for games to be made and to see if there are problems like how the 3ds has a bad battery.
