iPhone 5 Lost- Not Again! Plus Graphic Gets People Talking

As we approach the launch (hopefully) of the Apple iPhone 5 rumors and speculation step up and today we have details of an iPhone graphic that’s got people talking and almost unbelievably a story about an iPhone prototype lost in a bar…ring any bells?

Tech enthusiasts will no doubt remember last year’s saga about an Apple employee who lost an iPhone 4 in a bar before release, details of which were then leaked by tech site Gizmodo. It was mislaid by an Apple engineer in Redwood City, California, picked up by another person and then sold on to Gizmodo for $5000. That saga led to Apple taking it to the courts and it does seem highly improbable that now yet another iPhone seems to have been lost.

However that does seem to be the case as reported by Ben Parr over on Mashable, sourced from Cnet. We’re told that last month an Apple employee lost an iPhone prototype at the Cava22 bar in San Francisco. At present it’s not been confirmed whether this prototype was that of the iPhone 5. After reporting the loss to police Apple somehow tracked it down at a house in the Bernal Heights area of San Francisco and subsequently police then searched the home of a man in his twenties. He confirmed he was at the bar but denied knowledge of the iPhone prototype.

Police were unable to find the phone and Apple then offered the man money to come up with the goods on a no questions asked basis but he still denied all knowledge. The plot thickened when it was discovered that shortly after the iPhone had been lost, it was sold on Craigslist for $200. Talk about going cheap! The owner of the bar where the phone was lost says he has been called on several occasions about the phone although has had no direct communication from the police or Apple. Unsurprisingly the San Francisco Police, Craigslist and Apple are all not commenting.

In other iPhone 5 news, Seth Weintraub over on 9to5Mac reports on an iPhone 5 icon which showed itself in a Photo Stream beta. The pretty basic graphic seems to depict an iPhone, which would fit the current rumors of an extended screen and also a stretched-out home button. This has really got tongues wagging and TFTS for instance feels it could reveal more about the next iPhone, although mentions it could merely be a concept icon. MacRumors points to the fact that it’s more likely to be a simply an artist’s representation of a generic device, not meant to illustrate any product in particular and “have no reason to believe that the image represents anything related to the iPhone 5.”

We have to agree with MacRumors. While it’s natural to speculate about what this image could represent it’s a bit of a stretch to assume it could be an image of the next iPhone 5. If you want to catch up with some of our most recent iPhone 5 stories we’ve told of rumors of a New Zealand release on October 9, a Sprint event on October 7, and rumors that the next iPhone may not have the larger screen that most expected so check them out at the links, or our many other iPhone 5 articles.

We’re really interested to hear what you think about the new story of a lost iPhone prototype and also the graphic that has got people talking so why not let us have your comments.

if an employee of mine was so careless to lose a prototype of mine, he would not be employed by me for much longer and no references either
