EA: Sony PS4 & Xbox 720 Far Away- Gamers Happy With PS3 & 360

Sony’s PlayStation 4 and Microsoft’s Xbox 720 are both games consoles that are still very much in the concept stage, but are still being highly speculated about. We have seen a string of potential features and interesting rumors which suggest either could even be with us as soon as 2012. However these theories have been played down by a giant in the gaming industry, Electronic Arts who insist gamers are still currently happy with what they have got.

The Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 are the best selling consoles to ever grace the market, both fiercely competitive with each other. We spoke recently about the prospect of both working together to create a super console hybrid and the general feeling was that you preferred the 2 to offer separate devices. It seems that because many gamers are still happy with their existing games hubs, we will not be seeing the next generation ones for some time.

This is the opinion of EA boss Frank Gibeau, according to T3. The games chief does not believe launching a new console right now would serve any purpose as the additions would not be significant enough. For instance the PS3 already offers 1080p quality and is connected to the internet, apart from running a little faster and having slightly better graphics, what more could be included and at what cost?

We have seen many weird and wonderful concepts like the ones above and asked what you would like to see from the new console? I think the rumors of a rushed 2012 release for the PS4 or Xbox 720 are being more fueled by the fact that Nintendo are launching a new console. The Wii U was unveiled at the E3 gaming expo in June with Sony also showing off their PSP successor, the PlayStation Vita. This was set for a launch before Christmas but has now been delayed until what looks to be the first quarter of next year. Would the Vita launch prevent any other possible console launch from Sony?

Reports from PSU tell us that Sony has no plans to release any other console next year anyway, although it had been reported that the PS4 and Xbox 720 were both already in development. Leaks from manufacturers apparently claimed that the PS4 would come with a built in Kinect like motion control feature, effectively superseding the PlayStation Move. The Xbox 720 is said to be focusing on graphics, being so sharp that they are at the same quality of James Cameron’s Avatar movie.

EA’s Gibeau supports the move by Nintendo for a new console as they have significant hardware changes as well as the addition of HD graphics. The games boss believes that these changes are significant enough to warrant a new console but Sony and Microsoft probably not have enough new features yet to need one. After all it is gamer’s demand which will determine the success of these next gen consoles, will the PS3 and Xbox 360 suffice for now? Let us know your thoughts on this in the comments.

I agree that the PS4 and Nextbox are not just around the corner, but the PS3 and Xbox are the best selling consoles? What about the PS2 and the Wii?

I think that we should keep the Xbox 360 and PS3 until we have enough ideas. Also before they deside if there gonna make a different system they should ask the gamers if any one else. There should be a vote for the systems realese and in my opinion gamers are still satisfied with the Xbox 360 and PS3.
