Official Apple iPhone 5 Sprint Line: Internal Memo Reveals

Apple iPhone 5 news continues to dominate the tech pages and the closer we get to an official reveal the more news and speculation floods in. In the last week we told of reports that this time around the next iPhone will also be carried by Sprint and released in mid-October. Today we have further news on Sprint’s official line from a leaked internal memo.

News of the Sprint iPhone 5 and that it will also carry the iPhone 4 (maybe the new lost-cost version), seems pretty much confirmed as it was reported by The Wall Street Journal. Nevertheless it’s interesting to see that Sprint is advising its employees not to discuss the iPhone 5 with its customers. Far from this being a sign that the carrier won’t be getting the iPhone 5 after all though, it seems this points to the usual secretiveness over Apple products and Sprint is being cautious not to give too much away about its latest acquisition.

An internal Sprint note for its employees has been reported on by Chris Smith over on TFTS, which particularly issues instructions for how they should answer questions about the iPhone 5 from customers. The memo particularly notes the Wall Street Journal report saying, “A recent Wall Street Journal article mentioned that Sprint is getting the iPhone 5. If you’re asked by a customer or just talking to friends or family members, you need to avoid making any comment about the iPhone and simple state “no comment.” Details are then given about responses that should be given, such as “If you are asked a direct question by a customer about Sprint getting the iPhone, you can simply say, “Yes, I saw a few of those reports. I don’t have any information to share.”

The Sprint memo is also discussed by Mark Hearn over on Sprintfeed who points out that although this doesn’t confirm a Sprint iPhone, why would the carrier even issue a note about it if it was not going to carry it at all. This makes sense to us and seems like a further pointer that Sprint will indeed be getting its hands on the iPhone 5. We’ve recently told of reports that T-Mobile will also be carrying the iPhone 5 and also given details about some more leaked parts, this time the back cover of the purported next iPhone so hit the links if you want more on those.
