Motorola Droid Bionic Costco Bundle: Deal to Ease Price Concerns

The release of the Motorola Droid Bionic on Verizon is edging closer and is already expected to be a huge hit if the budget for the marketing campaign is anything to go by. One concern though has been its reported price of $299 on contract but news today may ease some of that concern as we can tell you about a Costco bundle incorporating the handset and accessories, which seems like a pretty great deal.

We recently showed readers a video reveal of the Droid Bionic showing the boot sequence and speed, compared the Bionic to the HTC Amaze 4G and gave details of specs from a leaked manual. However when we spoke of the release date and expected price of $299.99 on the usual two-year contract, there were concerns that this would in fact be more than the expected price of both the Galaxy S II and the Apple iPhone 5. This Costco deal then would certainly alleviate that worry for some consumers if they choose to take advantage.

News of the leaked Costco ad comes to us from Droid-Life, sourced from Droid Forums, and tells how $299.99 at Costco will buy you not only the Bionic handset but also get you a free Accessories Bonus Pack worth $159.97. The accessories included are a standard dock, vehicle navigation dock, battery dock and also an extra battery. That’s an amazing deal considering the same expenditure at Verizon on the release date (September 8 expected) will only buy you the handset, as far as we know.

Josh Smith over on GottaBeMobile, also talks about the Costco deal and gives further information. For instance to benefit from this deal you need to be a Costco Member which will set you back $50 yearly. However for that $50 you’ll get access to special offers like this one and 90 days to return your phone instead of the usual 30. The article also tells how out of 4,000 respondents asked about the expected price of the Droid Bionic, 68% said it was too expensive. This Costco deal should certainly go some way then to getting over that cost barrier.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on this. Was your mind already made up on the Droid Bionic even at the $299.99 price? Maybe you thought it was too expensive but will now opt for the Bionic because of this Costco deal? Let us know with your comments.

I intend to see if I can get VZW to agree to the same package. How? Calling the telesales or retention departments (if you’re out of contract) may work.

I expected the Bionic to cost that much as the Samung Charge costs that much and I think the iPhone 4 does as well. For me, I want the best phone available by the end of October with the cost not really a consideration.
